Tax Preparer


We have partnered with a Brattleboro area business looking for an experienced Tax Preparer to join their team. 
This is a seasonal part-time job through tax season, however there is further opportunity for leadership roles and long term employment for the right individual. The qualified candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in tax preperation.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare simple to complex tax returns for individuals and small businesses using proprietary tax software.
  • Conduct face-to-face client interviews to gain a thorough picture of their tax situation.
  • Use federal and state tax code to ensure clients receive the maximum permitted tax benefits.
  • Uncover and apply appropriate tax deductions and credits.
  • Communicate possible tax liabilities and safeguard against the payment of unnecessary taxes.
  • Exercise due diligence in all areas of the tax preparation process.
  • Review and analyze financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures.
  • Confirm all necessary tax forms are included in prepared returns.
  • Verify the accuracy of client-provided information as needed.
  • Research and apply tax law for especially difficult or uncommon tax returns.
  • Use discretion and good judgment when dealing with gray areas.
  • Resolve client complaints and address client concerns.
  • Provide tax consultation as needed.
  • Recommend ancillary company products and services.
  • Educate clients to improve understanding of their tax situation and improve tax preparation efficiency.
  • Ensure clients receive a copy of their completed tax returns.
  • Initiate the company's "closing the sale" technique.
  • Participate in pre- and post-appointment client surveys and calling campaigns. 
  • Stay current with all relevant tax law changes.
  • Foster long-term client relationships through value-building, integrity and professionalism.
  • Interface with taxing authorities on behalf of clients as required.
  • Document all pertinent tax return information in tax software and/or in client files.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures as well as to business best practices.
  • Offer additional tax tools and other resources to support clients.
  • Give pricing quotes to prospective clients upon request.
  • Operate as a team player and offer helpful and useful feedback as appropriate.
  • Promote all company products and services.
  • Handle peripheral administrative tasks to assist overall operation of the tax office.

Hours:

  • 1st Shift | Mon-Fri | Part-Time with flexible hours!

Pay Rate:

  • $15-$20/hour
