Tooling Technician


A well-known Massachusetts manufacturer is seeking a 3rd shift Tooling Technician.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret work orders to determine set-up procedures and necessary ancillary equipment to meet specifications
  • Installs dies, machine screws and sizing rings on machines that extrude thermoplastic materials
  • Change and/or clean dies on extruding machines according to production line changes
  • Perform die lip changes as necessary
  • Change and/or clean screws
  • Perform roll changes which may include scuffing rolls
  • Position and align ancillary equipment such as shearers, slitting knives, winders, unwinders
  • Troubleshoot and make minor repairs to equipment
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain a dean and orderly work area
  • Assist maintenance department in maintaining tooling such as deckles, slitters, roll and pump conditions
  • Notify maintenance of any necessary repairs or maintenance required

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required plus three to six months related experience and/or training, or one year certificate from college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Ability to travel between facilities
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Should be computer literate and have some basic knowledge of manufacturing software
  • Ability to perform minor metal fabrication and carpentry tasks
  • Ability to follow daily, weekly, and monthly schedules to plan work priorities
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Flexible to work overtime and/or en alternate shift if required to meet business demands
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear
  • The employee is regularly required to climb or balance and smell
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus

Pay Rate:

  • Great starting pay (based on experience)

Hours:

  • 7:00pm-7:00am | Rotating 3-day work week, then 4-day work week (every other week)
  • Each week includes at least 1 weekend day
